La bahía del dragón

Cuenta la leyenda que hace mucho tiempo, cuando los vietnamitas luchaban por defenderse frente a los invasores chinos, los dioses enviaron a una familia de dragones para ayudar en la defensa del territorio. Esta familia de dragones comenzaron entonces a escupir, joyas y piedras de jade, además de grandes llamaradas. Éstas joyas se convirtieron con el tiempo en unos 3.000 islotes salpicados por toda la bahía, lo cuales, en conjunto, recuerdan a una especie de fortificación natural frente a los invasores. El pueblo, con la inestimable ayuda de los dragones, consiguió defender finalmente dichas tierras, sobre las cuales se establecería el actual Vietnam.

Después de éste episodio, los dragones sintieron curiosidad por descubrir turísticamente nuestro planeta y decidieron asentarse de forma pacífica en la bahía Ha Long. El nombre de la bahía se refiere al lugar donde el dragón madre apareció en compañía sus hijos.

A día de hoy la leyenda del dragón, como toda buena leyenda, continúa. Al igual que en las lejanas tierras escocesas cercanas al Loch Ness, los pescadores de la zona dicen haber visto aparecer en alguna ocasión a alguno de los miembros de la familia dragoniana, mientras los visionarios de perfil más comercial organizan expediciones a bordo de algún lujoso velero en su búsqueda. Existe también un último grupo aficionado a la literatura, y en especial a las novelas bélicas, quiénes afirman que quizá sea, simplemente, un submarino espía del enemigo imperialista que aún merodea por la zona tras la famosa Guerra de Vietnam.

Legend says that long ago when the Vietnamese were fighting Chinese invaders, the gods sent a family of dragons to help defend the land. This family of dragons began spitting out jewels and jade, as well as huge blazes. These jewels turned into 3.000 islands and islets dotting the bay, linking together to form a great wall against the invaders. The people, with the invaluable help from the dragons, kept their land safe and formed what later became the country of Vietnam.

After that, dragons were interested in peaceful sightseeing of the Earth and decided to live here in the bay then. The place where Mother Dragon flew down with her children was named Ha Long.

Nowadays, the legend, as all the good legens, continues. As it the far Scottish lands that surround the Loch Ness, the fishermen that work there say that they have caught sight of some of the members of the dragon family. Meanwhile other visionaries with truly commercial skills organize expeditions aboard some luxury sailing ships to keep the search. There´s also another group that fancy more the war novels, state that perhaps it´s simply an spy submarine from the imperialist enemy that still prowls around the area after the famous Vietnam War.
