Elecciones

(Elections)

Tomorrow is election day held here in Bangkok. The truth to be told, I have no interest at all in who will be elected as the next city´s governor. Am convinced that he/she will meet with his/her political role and, of course, his/her personal one.

But what I´ll be glad about is with the candidates´ withdrawal, no exception, from the streets of Bangkok. Surely they won´t step on the road again until the next elections; therefore the daring pedestrians in this city, we´ll be able to walk without tripping over and quiet again with them, and what is best, without having any fear. To clarify this, I do not refer in any case to motorists who use the pavement as an alternative lane to avoid the usual traffic jams.

Estupefacto

Estupefacto.

(Speechless)
To counteract the creative delirium of some of the pieces I published in the previous post, then shows another type of ad less creative or sophisticated, more real than life itself and therefore much more harmful, offensive and incendiary for Thai collective consciousness . That at least what must have thought someone to try to censor it. Then I add for you a few paragraphs from the government´s committee to understand how amazing it can become this country:

"To allow the commercial on air, the panel has ordered that six scenes of the 150-second commercial, involving images deemed legally and morally improper such as the burning of buildings, soldiers pointing guns, nudity, monks being arrested and violent protests, be taken out."

"The committee's consideration of the radio and television commercials are based on the opinions and concerns of all parts of society. However, its mission is to create professional standards on the basis of creativity, social responsibility and peace of the people and the country" (...)

No more, no less. Speechless.

Publicidad

(Advertising)

Nowadays Thai advertising is considered among the most creative and innovative in Asia. I suggest you to take a look on the following selection of TV ads and find out the reason why. It´s worth it.

p.s. Yes, you are right, some of them are pretty sick but funny anyway, aren´t they? So that´s how is this amazing country, but I stop here coz actually I promise I´ll talk about this topic later on.

(Mother´s Day)
Today we´re celebrating a royal birthday here in Thailand. Everyone, no exception. Sirikit Rajini, Queen of Thailand, or on her extended version, Somdej Phra Nangchao Sirikit Phra Boromarajininat, is celebrating her 78th anniversary.

There´s no other way to celebrate this, if we count that Thailand, among others, posseses the world’s longest current monarchy, reigning since 1946, her anniversary is a National holiday.

Furthermore, the Queen´s known affectionaly as the Mother of all Thai people, therefore, her birthday matches casual but officially with the Mother´s Day festivity here in Thailand.

p.s. The picture above shows one of my favourite tropical fruits, mangosteen, which happens to be known as the Queen of the Fruits. A humble but royal tasty gift. Long live to the Queen Sirikit.
